The desire to be a sportsperson started as a young toddler. Gerina first began playing golf at fifteen years old. Gerina has graduated from Goddard High School. In high school, she took home her first prize in the New Mexico state golf tournament. Also, she played volleyball at the national level. She began attending the University of Texas. During her senior years she won every tournament she competed in. In her undergraduate career, she won her the Conference USA Individual Champion Player of the Year Award and UTEP Female Athlete of the year.
