Nadia Comaneci (Gheorghe Gheorghiu Dej currently Onesti) Romanian Gymnast born 12 November 1961. She was the first Romanian to score a of 10 for an Olympic contest. Bela Karolyi was later Romanian Gymnastics Coach, came across Comaneci as she was only seven years old. The year 1969 was the first time she took part at the Romanian Junior Championships where she placed 13th. She won in 1970. At her first international event in 1972 at a pre-Olympic Junior competition for communist-bloc nations she took home three gold medals. In 1973 and 1974, she was an overall junior champion. At her first competition as a senior athlete in the year 1975, she beat out Russian Lyudmila Turishcheva who was a five-time European champion winning four gold and one silver medal. In 1976, she became the first person in the world who used a double backwards salto in order to take off the parallel bars. Carol Marie Wayne born 6 September 1942 in Chicago Illinois US. Carol started her career in the world of entertainment when she was a teenager. The path she took to success began when she joined her sister Nina Wayne to perform in Ice Capades, a traveling performance. These shows were ice skating events which included stage performances.
